I know, I know. The official term is child-proof cap. Those lovely caps designed to keep our precious medicines out of the wrong hands. Problem is, those of us with weak hands end up asking our children to open the bottle for us since we can’t navigate those puzzles of doom for ourselves.
Your Pharmacist Is Your Friend
The easiest way to stop fighting the cap war is to start with your pharmacy. The next time you pick up a prescription, ask them to update your record to request pop-off caps instead of child-proof. My pharmacy technician immediately replaced all of the screw-top lids with pop-offs, and then she updated my record to keep the pop-tops flowing on future refills. Problem solved.
Possible DIY
Does your pharmacy have a website where you can request refills? Does it have a mobile app? If so, then you may be able to request pop-offs without walking into the pharmacy. Check out the settings online or on your mobile device. Odds are that you’ll find a setting you can update to change you top type. If there’s not an obvious setting, then include a note on your record.
Don’t Torture Yourself
You don’t need to fight the safety cap. You don’t have to rent a 10-year-old to open your medicines for you. Work with your pharmacist, and you’ll save yourself frustration over the long run.
